Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Clemens Fuest
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Clemens Fuest gained his doctorate at the University of Cologne in 1994 and his postdoctoral qualification at Ludwig-Maximilian University, Munich in 2000. From 2001 he was Professor of Political Economy at the University of Cologne, from 2004 Visiting Professor at Bocconi University in Milan, and 2008–13 Professor of Business Taxation and Research Director of the Oxford University Centre for Business Taxation. Between 2013 and 2015, he was President and Director of Science and Research of the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) and Professor of Economics at the University of Mannheim. Since 2016 he has been President of the Ifo Institute for Economic Research in Munich.
Clemens Fuest has been a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the German Federal Ministry of Finance since 2003 and Head of the Board 2007–10. In October 2012 he became a member of the Advisory Board for Sustainable Development of the State Government of Baden-Württemberg. He has been a member of The Market Economy Foundation’s scientific council Kronberger Kreis 2004–08, and again as of March 2013. Since 2014 he has been a member of the EU High-Level Group on Own Resources, and since 2015 a member of the German Minimum Wage Commission.
He is Programme Director of the Oxford University Centre for Business Taxation, a member of numerous German and international scientific academies and associations, and is on the board of the International Institute for Public Finance. He is editor of Beiträge zur Finanzwissenschaft [Contributions to Financial Research] and on several editorial boards of scientific journals.
